A Briefcase is like a Work Purse for a Man. Women Carry them but they do represent WORK. If I have a customer call or client Call, I can pull certain information up in a PALM PILOT. somepeople still use Briefcases because they may be easier. Considering New Technology has to be learned as well as work properly. If I know a customer is gonna call and they need the price of a product with there discounts and incentives on it. If I have to dig through my purse past lipstick and keys and sunglasses, makes it a little easier If I had a briefcase with a File and that information in it to look up for them. So I do feel briefcases makes it easier to transport work from point A to B. So yes I think people do carry work in there briefcase. No one wants unNeeded baggage.

most folks i know carry laptops and only a few papers (not briefcases) and yeah, alot of the time i think it is for show or good intentions that don't get carried out.

For many it is only a lunch box. Few people are actually allowed to take business papers out of the office.

I carry my laptop, memory sticks, today's WSJ, my Palm, business cards, and my afternoon heart medication pillbox in my case. Yes, I do bring work home. Yes, most people in business do carry work in one shape or form. Work does not end at 5PM if you want to get ahead. Most people without briefcases don't need them. It doesn't make much sense to carry a case if it isn't needed. Men have pockets to carry stuff. They don't need a "man purse." I carry my wallet, car keys, and phone in pockets, just like most guys.

You should emulate their work ethic, not mock them.
