What is the basic difference between a folder and a briefcase in windows?

Can you answer Seedrick's question about briefcases?:

Tried Windows Help but couldn't get much from it. What exactly is synchronization using briefcase and how can it be done?

A briefcase allows syncronisation, which means that you have two copies of the briefcase (e.g. one on your computer and one on a USB pen drive). Syncronising them means updating the data on both so that they match each other again. This lets you take files to another computer, edit them, and automatically update all the files on your harddisk that you keep in the briefcase with your new edits.
