Can a Remington 700 be taken down to fit in a case the size of a briefcase?
Can you answer specforce's question about briefcases?:
I mean can the rifle be "cut" down the middle and fit in a briefcase like in the movies. Also would it be possible with a Blaser R93 or WA2000, though it would break down differently. This is all just curiosity offcourse, but I would still like to know.

Why are you asking this? You could simply the gun apart and fit into a suitcase, no need to cut it. If you are planning to go hunting somewhere a plane ride away, please get the airline's regulations in order to avoid trouble.
Probably not a "briefcase" but certainly a case half the size of a gun. Nearly any pump or semi-auto longgun can be taken apart in nearly equal lengths by removing the barrel from the gun.
Some gun makers make "take down" versions of their rifles. These are usually more expensive due to the extra work and materials needed, but fit the bill for those who need to make their rifle more packable.
Search the websites for "takedown" and "take down"
Just remove the stock from the action. I do this with all my firearms when traveling. Also remove the bolt and magazine if applicable. I also fit all my rifles with detachable scope mounts.
Can a Remington 700 be taken down to fit in a case the size of a briefcase? Sure. All you need is a cutting torch or a good hacksaw.
Movie props don't work in the real world. I'm still looking for one of those six-shooters that NEVER runs out of bullets. Back to your question, Sauer DOES make a take-down rifle, but I don't think it'll fit in a briefcase. It'll still be too long. The old Armlite AR-7 survival .22 LR automatic rifle which takes down and stores in its own stock might just barely store in a briefcase, but that has a 16" barrel. The Browning .22 take down is also a bit too long for a regular briefcase.
I think what you've seen in the movies is just that, movie props.
Good luck and be sure and let us know if you do learn of a centerfire rifle that breaks down small enough to store in a briefcase. That would be neat.

I highly doubt a Remington 700 barreled action & stock will fit in a briefcase even if separated, but there are centerfire rifles out there that can be taken down to this size or thereabouts for transportation.
What are you planning?
No. Takedown rifles can be made, but the 700 action wouldn't be my choice for making one, when others are readily available. But there's no getting around barrel length, and you can't get two feet of barrel into a foot and a quarter of briefcase.
Why don't you just get something like a Sauer 202 or your Blaser and a decent case to fit?
